About John

John is the founder of Tate Financial Partners and is a graduate of the University of Tennessee, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting.  Following his undergraduate studies, John went on to earn his Master of Business Administration from the University of South Carolina with a concentration in Finance.  He has pursued additional studies at Harvard, the University of Wisconsin, the University of Tennessee, and completed his financial planning certificate at Boston University.  

John holds the Certified Financial Planner™ (CFP®) designation and also holds the Certified Kingdom Advisor (CKA®) designation, in which he integrates biblical wisdom into the advice that he provides to his clients to help them deploy capital in a God-honoring way.  Prior to founding Tate Financial Partners, he served his clients as a financial advisor for Patriot Investment Management for more than 11 years.  Prior to Patriot, John served as the Treasurer and Benefits Officer for the Holston Conference of the United Methodist Church, which serves more than 900 churches in East Tennessee, Southwest Virginia, and North Georgia.  

John specializes in helping his clients use their resources, including their investment portfolio, to positively impact their homes, their community, and our world.  He is a consecrated fellow in the 9/23 Fellowship, completed coursework in the Christian Theology of Investing, and seeks ways to help his clients become better stewards and reinforce their values through their investment portfolio.

John lives in Maryville with his wife Kelly, and they have four sons.  Their oldest son Zach is a Civil Engineer with Keller Engineering in Knoxville and is a Transportation officer serving in the Tennessee Army National Guard.  Eli is currently serving his country in the Army at Fort Drum in New York.  Wes is on the swim team at the United States Military Academy at West Point, studying Business Management.  Sam is on the swim team at Berry College, studying Business Management.  

In his spare time, John enjoys CrossFit, reading, serving his local church in various leadership roles, and traveling to swim meets or other sporting events to watch his kids compete.
